Brewery Flooring FAQs

Polyurethane cement boasts superior resistance to corrosion, inorganic alkalis, organic alkalis and solvents and it has a low porosity of just 0.5%. In contrast, epoxy resins have a reasonable resistance to some acids and its porosity is largely dependent upon the seal coat used. Epoxy systems offer limited resistance to the organic acids that are found in a large quantity of beers. Furthermore if your floor is subjected to contact with product or wash water of temperatures greater than 60 degrees Celsius polyurethane cement will perform much better.

It’s crucial to honour expansion joints in your brewery floor and carry them through the new floor coating. Use a joint sealant designed to withstand strong chemical exposure, as conventional sealants won’t be sufficient. Ensuring proper treatment of expansion joints helps maintain the integrity and durability of your flooring.

Absolutely. We often create or match existing corporate colours for brewery flooring, as the brew floor is often visible to the public and it’s important to reinforce your brand. However, some custom colours may not be tested for long-term performance or may lack strong opacity, requiring additional coats for the best results.

Yes, it’s very important to ensure your brewery floor drains properly to prevent puddles or standing water. Careful planning is needed for the location and design of drainage, and the concrete surface must have adequate slopes towards the drains. Drains should be flush or lower than the existing concrete floor for a seamless transition of the floor coating. If the slab is not poured correctly or drains are not placed properly, it can be very challenging to fix these issues with a thin resin coating.
